Les Rapides Chapter

Today's DAR

Picture
The Les Rapides Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was established to embrace  professional women who work in and outside of the home.
Our goal is to incorporate the DAR motto:  God, Home, and Country with the  flexibility to meet the needs of  active members  who  desire to be affiliated with a patriotic  service organization.

Members of DAR are the forerunners in patriotic education and leadership.   The Les Rapides Chapter strives to continue the objectives of the national society while accommodating the schedules of ladies who are pursuing higher education; employed full-time and those who have the demands of car pool.

The chapter name "Les Rapides," was chosen due to the distinctive navigational demographics of  the Red River Rapids.    As the population began  to grow, a small military post was established near "Les Rapides"  to the trade route to Natchitoches.   The 1790 Census listed the "Les Rapides," area as Post de Rapides for the militia.
